I have a relationship with designing things that has a lot less to show for it. This hurts if I have to accept it, the digital age consumed me and left me empty but this is about to change. I’m entering a new domain but what lies ahead starts with a confusing way to describe it. I am entering the product design space. But wait, this is a term that has become the center of my confusion.
I’m starting a journey on making practical physical things. I’m embarking on a journey of designing things. Designing physical things. As assumed this is going to be a challenge to differentiate from the work I have been doing in the digital world. Product design is not so much the product design I know. It’s the one that has nothing to do with UI/UX. It is the practice of making things that are actually “things”. If you are also confused by now, we are in the same boat.
Maybe not so product design, I guess I’m about to enter the Industrial Design world. Not for long, as I delve into this new world does It become clear. Industrial design is not as industrial as the term might suggest. But this won’t end well, we won’t get to the end of this. I don't have the answers too. Becoming a beginner again, finding the ropes, and in familiar terms, it’s “hello world”. But where do I start? Unlike in digital software development, there doesn’t seem to be a boilerplate. There is no one framework to help me get started.
