Writing is hard!

I have been sitting here wanting to jot down some thoughts. This post as you now read it was revised and retitled. Writing is not an easy thing, writing is hard.

With the noise, we find ourselves daily. The many notifications. With the multitudes of text we consume, it is easy to sit back and only consume. It is not a bad thing to consume, that is why adding to the conversation is hard. That is why we struggle to get down and articulate our own views. What makes writing difficult is the noise, the overstimulating environment. Before you pick a pen and get down to writing, there comes a train of beeps, flashes, and pops. Writing is more about mindfulness than it is about creativity.

This could be true, those of us who struggle are in a state of mental turmoil. Every bit of noise fighting to make it hard for us to concentrate? Writing is about putting down the thoughts you already have. The hard part about it is we often never want to see our thoughts. We rarely have a view of them and letting them pass is easier than capturing them.

Writing takes away from our hidden truths. It leaves us bare. You hit publish, It's out in the wild, someone has read it. You have no control over the conversation. You feel the anxiety before penning down your thoughts. Topics that flow in our content streams have notions that we subscribe to as groups or circles. Simple ideas in today's world rarely come with no cognitive bias. And sensitized environment we find ourselves in makes writing hard. We stay clear of thoughts comfortable only to ourselves. Keeping them away from the pen is easier. No one will ever know and alas the bias is fed unaware and deeper we go. Writing is like singing you deeper bias. We often think our ideas are facts, but in reality, they are truths. The difference, a fact is unchanged but the truth is a living experience you know or subscribe to. The aforementioned is a bias I hold. And we all have, they are part of us. We are diverse in our thinking and so are the biases we hold.

Until recently I have had people I looked up to, their thoughts on topics I subscribed to were co-beliefs. In their support of Trump, our biases were in conflict. Make of it what you will, but the bias in others’ views is someone's truth. It's the inherent fear our biases are carried in view of all our thoughts. We sing to our own choir yet the listeners could be in fear.

Writing is hard, but none harder than ignorance. Ignorance is comfortable, we ignore what we care less about. It’s safe for the most part unless it poses a threat to life. To write is to show you care about your thoughts, it’s to put yourself forward to learn. It’s to be mindful and honest. I write to learn about myself. And in so doing I hope you learn too about my thoughts and help me in my biases so we can learn.
